The new e:lit membership system
Q: Where do I find my new member number and password?
A: Current members will find their new member number and password in the letter sent out in December 2008. New members will be sent their member number shortly after joining. If you have lost your member number or password, please email accounts@elit.edu.au or phone 02 9565 1277.
Q: I entered my member number and password and still cannot log on, what should I do?
A: Check your security settings and add https://membership.elit.edu.au to your trusted sites.
- If you are using Internet Explorer as your browser, select Tools - Internet Options - Security - Trusted Sites - Sites. Copy and paste the e:lit membership web address into the first field, select Add - Close - Ok to save changes.
- If your browser is Firefox, select Tools - Options - Privacy - Check the box corresponding to “Accept cookies from sites” and “Accept third-party cookies” - Ok to save changes.
- For other browsers, see: http://www.google.com/cookies.html
- For Safari users, select Preferences from the Safari tab. From the Security dialog box, next to Accept Cookies, select Always. Select Close.
Q: I added https://membership.elit.edu.au as a trusted site and still cannot log on using my new password, what should I do now?
A: Call the e:lit office during office hours on +61 2 9565 1277. Please note the e:lit office will be closed from 19 December 2008 to 5 January 2009.
Q: After entering my member number and password that I received from e:lit, what screen should I be directed to?
A : You will be taken to the members only page and from there you can enter the secure site to renew your membership, update personal details, purchase items at member prices and access members only content and offers.
Q: Will I always require my number?
A: Your member number will appear on all correspondence we send to you. You will need your member number to access e:lit membership benefits. When you renew each year, you'll receive a membership card with your member number. Please keep it handy. However, if at any stage you forget your member number or password, please email accounts@elit.edu.au or phone 02 9565 1277.
Q: At what stage can I change my password?
A: As soon as you have logged on for the first time with the supplied member number and password you are able to go to Change ID and Password by choosing to 'Update' your details.
Q: I can go to the online store and browse without signing in, why am I asked to log on when I go to the online checkout?
A: If you are a current member, you are required to log on in order to receive member prices on publications and on professional development workshops. Non-members are required to create an account so that orders are filled and shipped to the correct address.
General Q&A
Q. What’s the period of e:lit membership?
A. Your membership is for a period of 12 months from the month you join. You can also save by joining up for two years.
Q. When can I join?
A. At any point during the year.
Q. How often will I receive publications and information from e:lit?
A. Members receive publication mailings four times during an annual membership.
Q. How do I pay for my membership?
A. You can pay by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), Master Card, Visa, cheque or money order.
Q. Can I join on the e:lit website?
A. Absolutely! Simply fill out your details and you will be sent an invoice to pay. You will receive a member number and password so that you can pay for your membership online.
Q. How will I know when to renew my membership?
A. You’ll receive notification from us prior to your membership expiring.
Q. Can I purchase publications and professional development over the phone?
A. Yes. All you need is a MasterCard or Visa. Remember to mention if you want a receipt or tax invoice sent also.
Q. Can I be invoiced for publications?
A. Yes. If you are a financial member of e:lit, just ask us for an invoice to be sent before payment.
Q. Can I get a receipt for tax purposes?
A. Yes. Tick the box indicated on the membership or order form.
Q. Is my membership tax-deductible?
A. It could be - keep your receipt and consult an accountant.
Q. Is there a student discount?
A. Yes. Full-time students pay only AU$50 to subscribe as an e:lit member if they enclose proof of full-time study.
Q. Do I have to be a member to purchase publications or professional development?
A. No, but current members save up to 40% on our past publications.
Q. Can I become a writer for e:lit?
A: Yes! We continually assess unsolicited manuscripts because we lead the field in publishing quality literacy education titles. We’re a Department of Education, Employment and Work Place Relations accredited publisher.
Our books lead the field in Australian literacy education. Many of our publications have gained a reputation internationally and a number of titles have been produced as international editions with overseas publishers.
Each year we publish at least three books as well as five e:update monographs:
books range from teacher reference material suitable for classroom teachers and student teachers through to publications designed for parents.
e:updates are a collection of practical, classroom-focused monographs, published as six- to eight-page A4 documents with a maximum word count of 3000.

Q. Can I become an official bookseller for e:lit books?
A: Yes! You can now obtain all of our publications online. Simply visit our catalogue to search for titles and order them by downloading an order form.
